Termination is the process of ending an employment contract. Terminations are a vital part of day-to-day employee management and must be done in compliance with the relevant UAE Labour Laws. For example, employers are required to notify employees 30 days in advance before terminating their contract except under special conditions. An employer can terminate a limited contract as long as they fulfil the legal consequences of termination, including notifying the concerned party at least one month in advance and honouring the terms of the contract for the duration of the notice. The Law sets forth three rules based on which a limited contract can be terminated. Firstly, the contract must have expired and is not renewed, secondly, the employee and employer mutually agree to end the contract, and thirdly, if a worker commits any of the violations mentioned under Article 120 of the Labor Law. An unlimited contract can be terminated either mutually by both parties or by a single party as long as they honour the obligations stated in the contract for the duration of the notice.
